Kitchen worktop wrapping

Kitchen worktop wrapping changes the look of a worktop by covering it in a durable marble, stone, concrete or wood-effect film. KWrap wraps sound, flat worktops, most often laminate, so a dated top can look like marble or concrete without the cost of templating and fitting a new one.

Can you wrap kitchen worktops?

Yes, kitchen worktops can be wrapped, as long as the worktop is flat, firm and not swollen. Laminate worktops are the most common candidates because their smooth surface gives the film a strong, even bond. Oiled timber worktops need the oil removed and the surface sealed first, and granite or quartz tops can be wrapped to change their colour, although the original surface is already very hard-wearing.

Is a wrapped worktop heat resistant?

A wrapped worktop is not heatproof. Vinyl film tolerates normal kitchen use, but a hot pan or baking tray placed straight onto the surface can mark, bubble or shrink the film. That is why KWrap recommends trivets or pan stands beside the hob, and why we check the gap between the hob and the worktop edge at the survey.

Knives, water and everyday wear

Treat a wrapped worktop like a good laminate: use a chopping board rather than cutting directly on the surface, wipe up standing water, and clean with a soft cloth and a mild cleaner. The most vulnerable areas are the sink edge and the front edge, so these are where preparation and edge sealing matter most.

Worktop wrap or a new worktop?

Worktop wrapping makes sense when the worktop is sound and you want a different look for less money, or when the cabinets are being wrapped and the worktop should match. A new worktop is the better choice if the existing top is swollen around the sink, badly burned or chipped through to the core, because film cannot repair the board underneath.

Popular worktop finishes

  • White veined marble, such as a Carrara effect, which brightens a kitchen and suits most cabinet colours.
  • Concrete and stone effects, for an industrial or minimal kitchen.
  • Black marble, for contrast against light units.
  • Wood effects, to warm up a white or grey kitchen.

What a worktop wrap covers

A worktop wrap covers the top surface and the visible edges, with careful cutting and sealing around everything that sits in or on the worktop.

  • Worktop surfaces and front edges
  • Upstands and splashback strips where fitted
  • Breakfast bars and island tops
  • Cutting and sealing around sinks, taps and hobs
  • Cleaning, degreasing and filling minor chips
  • Joins placed where they are least visible

How KWrap wraps a worktop

  1. 1

    Check the worktop

We check for swelling around the sink, burns and loose edges, and look at how close the hob and oven sit to the surface.

  2. 2

    Prepare

The worktop is cleaned and degreased, and chips are filled and sanded so they do not show through the film.

  3. 3

    Wrap

Film is laid in as few pieces as possible, with any join placed at a corner or beside an appliance.

  4. 4

    Seal and finish

Front edges are heated and wrapped under, and the film is sealed around the sink, tap and hob cut-outs.

Worktop wrapping is a good fit for

  • Laminate worktops that are worn, scratched or an outdated colour
  • Kitchens where the cabinets are being wrapped and the worktop should match
  • Rental kitchens that need a quick, affordable refresh
  • Homeowners who want a marble or concrete look without stone prices

A new worktop is the better choice for

  • Worktops swollen around the sink, tap or dishwasher
  • Tops with burns or chips through to the board underneath
  • Busy cooking areas where hot pans regularly go straight onto the surface

Why homeowners and businesses choose KWrap

Wrapping is the whole job

KWrap is a vinyl wrapping specialist for kitchens, homes and commercial interiors. Specialism matters because a wrap is judged at its edges and corners, where film has to be heated, stretched and sealed by hand.

Days, not weeks

Most kitchens are wrapped in a day or two, because nothing is ripped out and nothing new has to be made to measure. Your existing units, plumbing and appliances stay exactly where they are.

No rip-out, no mess

Wrapping goes over what you already have, so there is no demolition, no skip on the drive and no weeks of eating takeaways while a kitchen is refitted.

Real samples, in your light

You choose from physical film samples held against your own walls, floor and worktops, because a finish on a phone screen never looks the same as film in your room.

Worktop wrapping: your questions answered

Can you wrap kitchen worktops?

Yes. Kitchen worktops can be wrapped if the worktop is flat, firm and not swollen. Laminate worktops are the most common candidates, because their smooth surface gives the film a strong, even bond.

Is a wrapped worktop heat resistant?

A wrapped worktop is not heatproof. Vinyl film tolerates normal kitchen use, but a hot pan or baking tray placed straight on the surface can mark, bubble or shrink the film, so trivets or pan stands are needed beside the hob.

Can I buy worktop vinyl and fit it myself?

DIY worktop vinyl is sold by home improvement stores and can work on a small, simple worktop. The hard parts are the front edges, corners, joins and sink cut-outs, where film that is not heated and sealed lifts first. Professional architectural film is thicker and fitted with heat.

Can you wrap a worktop with a sink and hob in it?

Yes. The film is cut and sealed around the sink, tap and hob cut-outs. These areas take the most water and heat, so they are prepared and sealed with extra care.

Will I be able to see joins in a wrapped worktop?

Long or L-shaped worktops may need a join, because film comes in rolls of a fixed width. Joins are placed where they are least visible, such as at a corner or beside an appliance.
